Brief insights about the project

Dimensions

Concordia spans 34×17 meters, making it one of the largest stained glass artworks globally. The sheer scale of the installation required advanced planning and precision to ensure the artwork could be installed seamlessly at Bahrain International Airport.

Panel Composition

The artwork is composed of 127 handcrafted stained glass panels, each meticulously designed to fit into the overall design. The individual panels are made of specialized glass, ensuring durability and optimal light reflection.

Total Weight

The entire stained glass installation weighs a substantial 32 tons. The weight distribution was a critical consideration in the structural design of the installation, requiring specialized mounting systems to support the glass.

Materials Used

The glass panels were handcrafted in Germany, utilizing high-quality materials to ensure both aesthetic brilliance and long-lasting durability. The choice of glass allowed for vibrant colors and intricate detailing within the design.

Installation Process

The installation of Concordia took 43 days, during which the panels were carefully positioned and secured. Each panel’s placement had to be done with extreme precision to maintain the integrity of the design.

Design & Motif Integration

The stained glass incorporates Islamic geometric patterns, as well as natural Bahraini motifs like jasmine, dragonflies, and hawks. The design was developed with both artistic and cultural sensitivity.
